An established manufacturing business based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town is seeking to employ a factory based mid-level SHEQ Coordinator on a permanent basis.
The SHEQ (Health, Safety & Quality) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), maintaining a safe working environment, and supporting quality assurance processes within the manufacturing operation. This mid-level role focuses on practical implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of safety and quality systems.

Reports To - Operations Manager
Salary – R20,000 to R24,000 ctc/month, dependent on qualification and experience
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or certificate in Health & Safety, Quality Management, or related field.
- Min 2 years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Working knowledge of the South African Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Experience with inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Basic understanding of quality control processes.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with OHSA and relevant regulations.
- Maintain all legal safety documentation, registers, and appointments.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor adherence to safe work procedures across factory and warehouse.
Inspections & Audits
- Perform daily/weekly workplace inspections.
- Identify hazards and non-conformances, and drive corrective actions.
- Conduct internal audits and assist with external audit preparation.
- Ensure machinery and equipment meet safety standards.
Incident Management & Reporting
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
- Compile reports and track corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain accurate incident logs and safety records.
- Report on safety KPIs to management.
Health & Safety Meetings & Training
- Coordinate and participate in Health & Safety Committee meetings.
- Record minutes and ensure follow-up on action items.
- Conduct safety inductions for new employees.
- Promote awareness and adherence to safety practices.
Quality Control & Assurance
- Perform inspections on raw materials, in-process items, and finished products.
- Identify defects and support root cause analysis.
- Work with production teams to reduce rework and improve quality.
- Maintain quality checklists and inspection records.
Continuous Improvement
- Support initiatives to improve workplace safety and product quality.
- Identify trends in incidents or defects and recommend improvements.
- Assist in implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
