An established national FMCG meat product producer servicing the retail market in South Africa is seeking to employ an experienced Packaged Meat Production Manager at their Heidelberg plant.

SALARY RANGE – R35 to R45k/month, depending on experience

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS            

  • Preferred - Diploma/ Degree in Production Management/ Operations Management/Business Management
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar position preferably in a Food/Meat Manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of legislative requirements – food safety, health and safety and employment legislation;
  • Excellent communication skills – facilitating effective communication with other members of the site management team to ensure compliance with, and development of, the site quality manual / systems / HACCP / ISO / FSSC.
  • Excellent business English, both verbal and written
  • Established proficiency in MS Office with emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint and AX would be advantageous
  • Proven statistical and analytical ability
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Availability to work extended hours as per operational requirements
  • Ability to work in highly stressed and complex situations

JOB DESCRIPTION OF KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS        

  • To plan, organize and control production in an organization to ensure that packaged meat products are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to the quality standards.
  • Accountable for all aspects of the departmental processing operation including yield, quality and cost achievement, as well as controlling stock levels of finished products and packing material. This must be achieved in line with the business’ policies and procedures, whilst developing the team and quality culture on site.
  • Maintain food production compliance in accordance with the relevant legislative, customer and company requirements, paying particular attention to Food Safety standards held by the plant (HACCP, ISO 22000:2005 and FSSC 22000:2010).
  • Manage effective and timely monitoring of all performance data to ensure that improvements, where identified, are realised.
  • Responsible for directing and training supervisors in all facets including but not limited to production paperwork yields time and attendance discipline motivation turnover absenteeism safety problem solving etc.
  • Accountable for areas of performance safety quality workers compensation turnover bid movement Team Member morale and other duties as needed
  • Ensure adequate staffing by scheduling, training, and mentoring the local team to ensure they are meeting performance metrics and operating efficiently
  • Take control of all aspects of the production: setting up the line, packing, and cleaning up at the end of each shift.
  • Manage the inventory spreadsheet for warehouse supplies to ensure that the team has enough supplies to operate seamlessly on a day to day basis. Order necessary supplies on a weekly basis, including packaging materials
  • Coordinate with our sales team to notify customers of potential shorts or substitutions and maintain a constant loop for customer feedback
  • Own all major decisions around the pack line flow and all supporting ops functions as well as bottom lining food safety and warehouse safety
  • Oversee and own the process of shutting down the line and cleaning up the warehouse. Use the checklist of warehouse closing responsibilities and manage the warehouse employees during closing and daily cleaning process
  • Keep a constant eye out for opportunities to improve the operational flow, key metrics, employee happiness, food safety and warehouse safety at Imperfect and relay those to the Ops Leadership Team.
  • Plan and organise production schedules
  • Effectively order suppliers for production
  • Estimate, negotiate and manage budgets and timescales with clients and managers
  • Ensure that Health and Safety regulations are met in your department and in the factory
  • Determine quality control standards on products developed
  • Oversee Production process in the deboning and small goods areas
  • Order and purchase materials for production
  • Organise the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
  • Organise relevant training sessions in your department
  • Delivering results and meeting customer expectations
  • Own key KPI’s around order accuracy, quality issues, and underweight items.
  • Manage human and material resources to meet production targets
  • Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
  • Analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems.
  • Carry out surveys to identify customer requirements and adjust to meet such needs
  • Ensure all company regulations and government legislations are adhered to.
  • Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution and management.
  • Conduct studies to discover ways to improve the efficiency of production processes.
  • Ensure manufacturing and processing staff wear appropriate sanitary and protective gear to ensure health and safety
  • Monitor every aspect of production to ensure compliance with established procedures and standards
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and replacement of production equipment to ensure smooth work operations.
