A medium-sized accounting firm is seeking a reliable and proactive IT Technician to provide day-to-day technical support across the business. This role is responsible for maintaining the firm’s IT infrastructure, supporting end-users, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and securely. Identifying and implementing AI solutions will also form a secondary responsibility for this position.
Location - Somerset West
Salary – R15,000 to R20,000 dependent on skills and experience.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or related field will be advantageous
- Relevant certifications will also be considered.
- 2–4 years’ experience in an IT support role (preferably in a professional services environment)
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365
- Experience with hardware troubleshooting and PC builds
- Basic server administration (Windows Server environment advantageous)
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals
- Experience with cloud platforms and online storage solutions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
- Customer-service mindset with attention to detail
Key Responsibilities
End-User Support
- Provide first-line technical support to staff on hardware, software, and network-related issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, laptop, printer, and peripheral problems
- Assist users with Microsoft Office, accounting software, and other business applications
- Respond to help-desk requests in a timely and professional manner
Hardware Setup & Maintenance
- Configure and deploy new PCs, laptops, and mobile devices
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on IT equipment
- Manage asset inventory and ensure proper tracking of all IT hardware
Software Installation & Updates
- Install, configure, and update operating systems and business applications
- Ensure all systems are running the latest patches and security updates
- Support onboarding/offboarding processes, including system access setup
Server & Network Management
- Monitor and maintain on-premise servers and network infrastructure
- Perform basic server administration, backups, and performance checks
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi)
Cloud & Storage Management
- Administer and maintain cloud-based storage platforms (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint, Google Drive)
- Manage user access, permissions, and data organisation
- Ensure data backups and disaster recovery processes are in place and tested
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain IT security best practices (antivirus, firewalls, access controls)
- Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and potential risks
- Assist with compliance requirements related to data protection and confidentiality
