An established international enterprise software solutions business is seeking to employ a Senior Geospatial Application Engineer on permanent basis. This crucial position based in Midrand, Gauteng will provide high-level technical support, project implementation, and presales assistance within the clients’ specialist business division, ensuring successful software deployments and upgrades.
The role requires a deep understanding of GIS and public safety technologies, strong project management capabilities, and the ability to interface with senior stakeholders. The candidate will also be responsible for technical proposals, solution architecture, and business development support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot customer issues related to GIS and public safety software applications.
- Escalate complex technical problems to the OEM while liaising with customers to ensure timely resolution.
- Conduct project implementation and provide ongoing project support to customers.
- Develop and maintain expert-level knowledge of products, related applications, and industry trends.
- Assist the business manager with presales activities, including technical demonstrations, product presentations, and customer engagement.
- Contribute to the technical and functional aspects of RFIs/RFPs by providing detailed technical write-ups and solution architectures.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including management and C-level executives, ensuring that technical solutions meet their business requirements.
- Manage and log technical customer calls and complaints, ensuring they are tracked and resolved effectively.
- Issue and support customer evaluation licenses for software trials.
- Deliver training sessions on new installed and customised software to customers.
- Ensure timely project delivery by managing personal workload efficiently and meeting defined project deadlines.
- Travel to customer sites to provide training and technical services as required.
Requirements
- At least 5+ years of experience in the GIS and/or Public Safety industry, working in technical, presales, or project environments.
- Proven track record of successful project implementation and software deployments.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach in complex technical environments.
- Ability to create detailed technical write-ups for tenders and proposal requirements.
- Experience with solution architecture based on customer needs.
- Proficiency in relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server) including database setup, design, and management.
- Programming skills in Python or JavaScript will be advantageous
- Strong SQL/PLSQL skills for querying and optimizing relational databases will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with PowerShell or Bash will be advantageous.
- Experience with API development and integration (RESTful APIs or SOAP) for connecting GIS/public safety systems with other platforms.
- Virtualization skills (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
- Data analytics and visualization skills using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik for reporting and analysing GIS or public safety data.
- Knowledge of spatial analysis tools like GeoMedia, ArcGIS or QGIS for geospatial data processing and visualization.
- Understanding of network security protocols (e.g., SSL, VPNs) and data encryption for safeguarding sensitive public safety information.
- A relevant degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience.
- This role involves travel to customer sites for training or technical services as needed.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with the wider team and business management.
Salary: R40,000 to R60,000, negotiable and dependant on skills and experience.
