A rapidly expanding insurance company has an excellent opportunity for a Insurance Accountant (Long / Short Term). This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding insurance company with a permanent position.

The Insurance Accountant (Long / Short Term) will be responsible for keeping accurate, timeous and complete records of all accounting information and administrative duties for various entities.  Must have a good understanding of financial processes and procedures and work well in diverse and changing environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible and accountable for all financial processing and reconciliations, including:
    • Daily capturing of bank statements including bank reconciliations
    • Debtor invoicing and credit notes
    • Process and allocation of debtor receipts
    • Supplier invoicing and credit notes
    • Process and allocation of supplier payments
    • Fixed asset accounting
    • Raising of accruals, provisions and prepayments
    • Month end Journal entries
    • Balance sheet control reconciliations
    • Month-end pack preparation
    • Assistance with year-end audits, special projects and ad hoc requests
  • Responsible for VAT and Tax administration, including:
    • VAT 201 preparation and reconciliation
    • Assist with the calculation and payment of the various taxes
    • Ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations
  • Responsible for the monthly payroll administration for the various entities, including
    • Processing the payroll within the required timelines
    • EMP 201 preparation and reconciliation
    • Ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations
  • Responsible for maintaining Xero accounting package.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • BCom (Financial accounting) or similar qualification
  • Financial Accountant experience of 2/ 3 years within the insurance industry 
  • Must have Payroll experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially with good Excel skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Xero accounting package

Salary: R 15k – R 20k per month, depending on experience and qualification
