A leading financial services group is looking to employ a talented Head of Finance with financial services experience.

The incumbent will be responsible for the finance and risk management requirements for the business. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer with a dotted line to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Finance forms part of the company’s Senior Management Team and will be responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer with the implementation of the business strategy within the Finance department driven in alignment with the company culture.

The Head of Finance will be responsible for the management and direction of all finance resources, providing sound financial advice, ensuring that stringent and rigorous accounting processes and controls are in place, ensuring accurate reporting of financial results and operational excellence. The Head of Finance will be responsible for leading, motivating and developing a high performing Finance, Risk and Office Management team.

Key outcomes:

Budgets, targets and cost management

  • Formulation of annual budgets and targets.
  • Responsible for the Finance budget, overseeing the company budget / multi-year plans and advising and implementing best practice methods to increase revenue and reduce costs.
  • Forecasting financial results on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Balance Scorecard measurements – manage and ensure the effective preparation and monitoring of performance against target.
  • Ensuring operational efficiency and profitability of the business.

Control environment, reporting, risk and compliance

  • Managing and overseeing the company’s financial systems.
  • Accurate and up to date reporting to the various Boards.
  • Ensure that all accounting activities are in compliance with financial regulations.
  • Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.
  • Managing and overseeing the taxation affairs of the business and liaising with internal tax experts across the group for specialist advice.
  • Sound governance principles, including the requirements of King IV and the Companies Act and overseeing Risk Management to ensure the business has a robust risk framework in place and proactively manage internal and external risk to the company.

Collaboration and relationship building within the Group

  • Facilitate collaboration across all departments within the company and across the Finance community within the greater Group.
  • Negotiate and influence business, accounting and process rules within the greater Group.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Managing the internal and external audit relationship and ensuring the business is compliant with accounting standards.
  • Involvement in business-critical projects including overseeing the replacement of the current SAP accounting system.

Finance Team and Strategy

  • Play an integral part in developing and implementing the Finance strategy to support the business strategy.
  • Responsible for leading and managing the following teams and functions: Finance, Risk Management, Office Management.
  • Creating a culture of high performing teams, grounded in the core values of the organisation to ensure high employee engagement.
  • Promote and uphold the brand, culture and values.

Qualifications and experience

  • CA (SA) Qualification.
  • Experience in managing finance delivery at a strategic level.
  • Minimum 5 years senior management experience preferably within the Financial Services Industry.
